What happens when I reach my active project limit?

The Free plan allows up to 3 active projects. Here's what happens when you hit that limit and how to free up a slot or upgrade.

The Free plan limit

On the Free plan, you can have up to 3 active projects at the same time. "Active" means any project in the Active or On Hold state — both consume a slot.

Projects in Pipeline, Completed, or Archived do not count, so you can keep unlimited prospects in your pipeline without using up your slots.

When you hit the limit

If you try to activate a new project, resume a paused one, or record a payment that would auto-activate a project while all 3 slots are full, TCB shows you an upgrade prompt instead of completing the action. Your data is never lost — the action is simply paused until you make room or upgrade.

How to free up a slot

Because On Hold projects still count, pausing a project does not free a slot. To open one up on the Free plan, you can:

  • Mark an existing project as Completed when the work is done.

  • Or archive a project you're no longer working on.

Both Completed and Archived projects keep all their documents and data, and Archived projects can be restored at any time.

Or upgrade to Plus

Upgrading to Plus removes the active project limit entirely — work on as many projects at once as you like, with no slot management. You can upgrade from My Account → Billing. Read Free vs Plus — what's the difference? to compare plans.
