Two ways to send a document
Once a document is ready in the Document Builder, you can get it to your client in two ways — sharing it by email, or sending it for an electronic signature. Which one you choose depends on whether you need a signed agreement back.
Sending by email
Sending by email delivers a copy of the document to your client — useful for proposals, invoices, or anything that doesn't need to be signed. You can still make changes and send an updated version later if needed.
If you've connected Stripe in My Account → Getting Paid, invoices sent by email also include a secure Pay now button so your client can pay by card. Read Getting paid online — let clients pay invoices by card.
Personalizing the email
Every send — by email or for signature — lets you edit the Subject and Message your client receives. Both come pre-filled with a sensible default, so sending fast still works; but you can rewrite them in your own words for each client. Your custom message is delivered inside TCB's branded email template, with the document attached or linked as usual.
What if the client has no email on file?
Clients can be created with just a name. When you try to send a document to a client without a valid email, the send dialog asks for the address right there — and saves it to the client record, so next time it's already in place. No dead ends, no leaving the flow to edit the client first.
Sending for signature
When you need a binding agreement — typically a contract — send it for signature. Your client receives a secure signing link, reviews the document, and signs electronically. Both of you receive the signed file automatically, along with a full audit trail and certificate of completion. Read How do electronic signatures work in TCB? for the full flow.
What happens after signing
Sending a document by email does not lock it — you can keep editing. A document is only locked once it has been signed: at that point it becomes final and can no longer be edited, so the signed version always matches what both parties agreed to.
Signature limits
The Free plan includes up to 3 electronic signatures per month; Plus includes unlimited. Sending a document by email does not count toward your signature limit.
