What Refine is
When you sign up, TCB loads a set of services for your craft, priced and scoped from market benchmarks. That is a starting point, not your Base. Refine is a guided session of about two minutes that turns those benchmarks into your prices, your scopes and your order.
It is not onboarding and it is not a form. As you answer, a panel on the side shows your Base changing in real time, so you watch it take shape instead of filling in fields and hoping.
Why it matters
Everything TCB builds comes from your Base: proposals, contracts, invoices, project scopes, tasks. Until you refine it, every quote you send carries numbers that belong to the market average rather than to you. Refine is the fastest way to close that gap.
What Refine asks
Your profession and experience, which is what repositions your prices relative to the benchmark
Your anchor service, the one you sell most and know best
What that service delivers and how long it takes
How you charge for it, and what you charge
The anchor service gets tuned in depth, and the rest of your Base is rearranged around it.
Why some services cannot be the anchor
The anchor is the reference the whole session works from, so it has to be a service that came from the catalogue and carries market data behind it. A service you created yourself has no benchmark underneath it, so there is nothing to extrapolate from. Those services are yours and stay exactly as you built them, they simply do not appear in the anchor list.
Price means price, always
The price field is the price of the service, in every billing mode. If you bill by the day, we ask for your day rate in its own separate field and use it for one thing only: showing you roughly how many working days that price covers, as a sanity check.
Your price is something you tell us. It is never the result of a calculation we run behind your back.
Refine never overwrites your own edits
If you have already edited a service by hand in Base Setup, Refine leaves it alone. Repricing by experience only touches services you have not customized yourself. That is why you can run Refine as many times as you want without losing work.
Each service in Base Setup carries a badge that tells you where its numbers came from:
Default, still the benchmark we seeded for your craft
Refined, priced by a Refine session
Your Base, a price you typed yourself
What happens to services you do not offer
Refine also clears out what does not apply to you. Services you say you do not sell are archived, never deleted, and you can bring them back at any time from Base Setup.
Where to find it
At the end of onboarding, on the Your Base is built screen
On your dashboard, in the Your Base card
In Base Setup, on the Base Services tab
Does Refine use AI?
No. The repricing engine is deterministic, built on benchmark data and the answers you give it. The only AI in TCB lives in the Base Intelligence layer, and it never touches your documents.
What if I offer something that is not in the catalogue?
You can create it. At the end of the session there is a flow for adding a service of your own, with your price, your deliverables and your turnaround. It becomes part of your Base like any other service.
